New York.
NEW YORK!
NEW YORK!
Hard to reach an are words on this City view, revised, as everyone knows, and who is not as surprising as that. Hard for the little that I am Lyonnais, "exile" in a city of 600,000 inhabitants that looks like a big village, understand and want to understand what is really New York. It must be said that Big Apple sends the dream, and what since I was little. We all think of cartoons or comics whose action takes place in Manhattan. Then, films, series, Sex & The City p irst, a true statement love the city. New York, for me it was everything and nothing at once. We can summarize New York for one thing: Wall Street, September 11, Central Park, Broadway, Harlem, Statue of Liberty, music hall, Stonewall. It is a world unto itself, a city disproportionate, an amazing melting pot, a energy that sometimes reminds me of Paris but especially Bombay.
I'm still "embedded in the City" as the song says. I have three days and two nights to immerse myself in this perpetual movement that dwells in every corner of this sprawling metropolis. I've been here three days, I like the run we had, taking the time to sit down, drink a coffee or two, note things that I see, I feel, consult the Lonely Planet bought for the occasion, to study the metro map ... Pfffiou is huge!
We left Quebec City late Friday morning, with Anne-Sophie and Helen, my two neighbors. In Montreal, waiting in a Starbucks, then Sebastian goes to greet me. What better than to go out for dinner, all four in a sushi bar? I am reluctant, and finally succumbed to others. So nice evening, and Seb is my Parisian acquaintance. After some sushi, we take the path of the bus station. 22:30 departure, we arrive 7 hours later after a quick crossing the border. We are in America! Needless
of r in a detailed account of these first three days. We remain first overall with the girls. Nou s Segolene find her boyfriend and a French friend who lives in NY. But after two days spent together, I choke a little. Gaelle apart, I've never known someone on the same wavelength as me to discover a city, a place. Helen and Anne-Sophie want certain things I do not search, and we rely heavily Ségolène we want to find every day. I am the front: let us part, and do things that we will appeal to our side. Especially since we do not lodge in the same hostel, which facilitates the radical separation. Either late Sunday afternoon, we leave, they go to the 86th Street myself to the 106th, where the Jazz on the Park Hostel, youth hostel atmosphere.
Before that, we made things up at the top of the Empire State Building with our luggage on Saturday morning watching the sun rise over the city, and discover its incredible range. It's nice, and even hot! We walk a lot, on 5th Avenue, and always our eyes and dream awake. Yes, we're in New York! Times Square, its lights, its thousand and one commercials, all that space in the media, seen by the world, my head is spinning, I feel the full force of this city. Like musicals including pubs invade the space, a spa and a good mood booster, that corner. Excess of the extreme, even kitchissime ... Everything I love!
Take the ferry to Staten Island orange, and advance toward the Statue of Liberty, small in the fo n d. M ais especially, again, for the same road and see the southern tip of Manhattan to spread itself. With c ett e curious impression of being in a table, with lines for leaks, as if all this takes us to downtown impressive, these tens of skyscrapers .... In the distance, Brooklyn Bridge, I am the next day, alone this time. At dusk, when the sun is orange. View Manhattan Bridge, and understand how the city is immense.
This morning, I take my time, and decides to walk in Central Park. It must say I have a huge headache, last night, I decided to go out in a bar in Chelsea, west side of Manhattan. I do nationals only 3 o'clock in the morning, after a few glasses of Chardonnay and Cosmos ( several were also offered by the Americans, and that's fun!). In the subway runs all night, I flickers repeatedly, and finally collapsed in the bed assigned to me. Central Park will allow me to give me gently, to meet again the City that never sleeps. And it's a real pleasure! For three hours, I walk in the park giant, which has absolutely nothing to compared with the major French city parks! It was still sunny and warm and the jacket in the bag, and I advance photograph every detail. The city is not far, and we still hear the cars and helicopters flying all day, on the lookout for a possible attack.
I still have so much to see! Some museums, neighborhoods, community, Wall Street. Bought a place for a musical, The Phantom of the Opera. And yet, it's nothing! There are a million things to do, and the idea of returning later in the year University begins to emerge ...
